We
at Rang Puhar believe that the best way to preserve an art form is to
hand it down to another generation; to teach them what the art form meant
and how it grew. And one of the ways in which we do this is through the
Rang Puhar Dance Institute, where we concentrate on folk dances from different
parts of India, in a state-wise order.
We
have four batches of three months duration in a year. The students are
divided according to their ages into adult, youth and child groups.
Courses for youth are also made up of 12 sessions. The sessions have theory and practical aspects. The students are shown audio-visuals of the dances, and of the places of tourist and religious relevance in the state. At the end of the course there is a performance of a historical dance drama originating in the state. In a year, four states are covered in a similar fashion, and at the end of 12 months, the students vote for a state that they would like to visit on an actual field trip. One of the modules covers personality development through dance movements, so that students can understand hand and eye gestures better. The course for children, is a lighter, more fun-focused set of sessions. The emphasis is on letting the young childs natural rhythm grow and develop in an uninhibited way. |
